View your tax assessment notice
Most people receive the tax assessment notice between April and June, while others have to wait until autumn. Everyone gets their tax assessment notice before 1 December.
When you’ve submitted your tax return, we need to process it and prepare a tax assessment. You’ll receive a tax assessment notice where you can see how much money you’ll receive (tax refund) or how much you still have to pay (underpaid tax).
When will my tax assessment notice arrive?
Most people receive the tax assessment notice between April and June, while others have to wait until autumn. Everyone gets their tax assessment notice before 1 December. You’ll be notified when your tax assessment notice is ready.
We do not send out the tax assessment notice on public holidays, during the Easter week or in July and the first half of August.
If you’re due a tax refund, it will be paid once you receive your tax assessment notice.
There may be several reasons for your tax assessment notice to arrive later, for example:
- You’ve made many changes or added attachments.
- You’re a self-employed person or have applied for an extension.
- You’ve been picked for a random check.
- You have not included all the required information in your tax return.
- You’ve received back payment from Nav or other pension companies.
Unfortunately, we cannot give you a definite answer for why it is your tax assessment that takes longer. You’ll be notified when it is ready.
Spouses receive their tax assessment notices at the same time
If you’re married, both you and your spouse receive your tax assessment notices at the same time – after both tax returns have been processed. If some of the points above apply to your spouse, this might result in both of you getting your tax assessment notices later.
If your spouse has underpaid tax or did not submit the tax return within the deadline, you’ll be getting your tax assessment notices in June at the earliest.

Unfortunately, we cannot give you a specific date for when you’ll receive your tax assessment notice. You’ll be notified.
There may be several reasons why you have not yet received your tax refund, for example:
- The tax assessment is not yet completed. We’ll let you know when your tax assessment is ready. The tax refund will be paid once you receive your tax assessment notice.
- You owe money to the state/municipality. Any tax refund you have in credit can be used to cover what you owe.
- We need an account number we can pay the refund to. If this applies to you, you must log in to register an account number. We’ll also send you a separate letter about this.
- The money has been paid to another account than you expected. You can log in and check how we pay you.
- You do not get a tax refund this year. The preliminary tax calculation shown in your tax return is not final and may be changed. After you’ve received your tax assessment notice, you can log in and check whether you have to pay overpaid tax or get a tax refund. You will not receive any money if you do not have overpaid tax.
