Valuation of cars

The value is determined on the basis of the model year and list price. Your tax return will normally be completed with the amount that has been reported, so you should check that everything is correct.

Does this apply to me?

The applies to everyone who has a car registered under their name with the Norwegian Public Roads Administration.

Rates and key figures

To find the value of the car, you do the following:

1. Find the list price

  • See overview of Car prices - list price as new
  • For other cars or cars that are not on the lists, you will have to contact the dealer or the main importer to get the list price.

2. Add the value of extra equipment, for example stereo, winter tyres or sportsgear. 

3. The valuation of the car is calculated by adding up the list price as new + the extra equipment, reduced by age after the following scale:

Old vehicles, i.e. vehicles that are 30 years old or more, are valued at the estimated sales value.

You enter the value in your tax return.

Market value

If the real value of your car is lower than the valuation, you can enter the car's market value if for various reasons the car has decreased in value. 

Car over 30 years

We pre-complete the tax return with a market value of NOK 0, and you have to change the value yourself to the car's market value. 

The information is not correct

This is pre-filled based on information we receive from the Norwegian Public Roads Administration, but you must check that it is correct. If any information is missing or wrong, you should correct it in the tax return and at the Norwegian Public Roads Administration.

Enter or correct the information that is missing. We recommend that you also notify the Norwegian Public Roads Administration because we obtain our information from them. This will also ensure that the information will be correct next year.

  1. Enter the value of the car as new under List price, if it's not already there
  2. Enter "0" in the field for Capital value or delete the entire entry
  3. Notify the Norwegian Public Roads Administration

You do not need to send us any documentation concerning this, but you must be able to present it upon request.
